My non-stop involvement with Yoga began when I was 43 in 1970. I joined Accrington Yoga Centre and, much to my surprise and apprehension, was put on a teaching rota two years later. I joined the BWY in 1975 in order to enrol on a Teacher-Training Course with Valerie Williams and Nellie Dalton in Rochdale. In tandem with this I took up a Yoga Society International Training Course with Vincent Rylance. Both courses ran for three years resulting in gaining both Diplomas in 1978.  My ‘proper job’, being in charge of a small export department was in the background along with my mother/housewife role.

I began teaching for the Local Education Authority in the evenings along with one private class of my own. On becoming a Diploma Course Tutor, (DCT), in 1982 I started the Teacher Training Courses, initially with the help of my teacher, Nellie Dalton, but later with a colleague, Stephanie Bridge. 1984 brought the work to a national level when I was elected to serve on the, then, BWY Education Committee which lasted for circa six years.  

There was additional work as a written work assessor and a verifier for Diploma Courses. Being on the NW BWY Committee and Lancashire Yoga Teachers’ Association has kept me involved locally up to the present day.

My happiest thoughts on the above are in remembering the teacher training years and student-teachers achieving their diplomas after working so hard.

They truly deserved them! As I cannot hear very well now, the services I can offer are very limited but an e-mail is much more use than a telephone call. You know where I am!

Hobbies? Sequence Dancing and Creative Writing but not both at the same time – yet!
